Situated in a large, ‘green space’ campus just a few miles south of Oxford, and within easy reach of London and international airports, Abingdon is a boys-only school and is ideally placed to welcome overseas boarders. The School combines over 750 years of history and tradition with a modern outlook offering a world-class education that sees former pupils at the top of many professions, from academics, medics, lawyers, diplomats and industry leaders to musicians, authors and actors.

Abingdon is an academically selective school with consistently excellent results. Students benefit from our specialist team of career advisors who mentor the Sixth Form on university applications, including studying abroad. The school offers 25 subjects at A level and the timetable is flexible, enabling boys to take many and varied subject combinations.

Each student is known and cared for within the House system, each under the care of a housemaster and they also belong to small tutor groups, where each student meets daily with their tutor, who is the principal liaison between school and home.  There is no single route to positive wellbeing, so at Abingdon, they offer students different opportunities and approaches so that each individual is encouraged to find the strategies that work best for them. Abingdon also have a specialist counselling service should students want to talk to someone outside of school.

Boarding attracts students who live locally as well as overseas.  The boarding facilities include three boarding houses which also have day boys as an integral part of them. The boarding houses comprise a housemaster and his family, an assistant housemaster, who is usually a resident, a matron and a team of tutors.  Abingdon also has an onsite Health Centre  staffed by qualified healthcare professionals who have a wealth of experience and provide a professional and caring environment for the students.

The range of Abingdon’s extra-curricular programme is vast even amongst independent schools. As well as a huge array of sporting, music and drama activities there is room for more unusual activities such as bell ringing, croquet and film-making. There are currently over 150 activities for students to try.
