About

About

Badminton School is a vibrant and thriving boarding and day school for girls.  The school is on the outskirts of the university city of Bristol, situated in the South West England and only a 1.5-hour train journey west from London Heathrow Airport. The School nurtures the girl’s inherent joie de vivre and intellectual curiosity in a happy, safe and encouraging environment. The holistic approach ensures that the girls can discover and develop not only their academic strengths but all their other talents via the extracurricular programme.

Academic

The school encourages pupils to get 'hands-on' with their subjects, ask questions and apply their knowledge in a real-world context, not just answer textbook questions.  Their focus is on nurturing the pupils’ natural curiosity and passion for learning.  The teachers know all the girls exceptionally well. Small class sizes, specialist teaching and excellent pastoral care ensure that every child reaches her true potential by exploring her talents and interests.

All of the first-class facilities are situated on site. There is a Creative Arts Centre, a fully equipped Science Centre and a Music School with its own recording studio. The Sports Centre opened in 2019 and offers a four-court hall, a cardio and resistance fitness centre, fencing piste, cricket nets, physiotherapy room and climbing wall. Additional sports facilities also include a 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, international size AstroTurf pitch as well as tennis and netball courts.

Wellbeing

Community lies at the school’s heart and drives everything they do. Their pastoral care is of the highest standard and aims to give that home-from-home feel.

Boarding

There are three boarding houses representing over 35 nationalities, with the majority of those boarding being international students and more than half of the Sixth Form pupils being boarders.  A video of the boarding facilities and experience can be viewed here  https://www.badmintonschool.co.uk/boarding/welcome-to-boarding

Extra-curricular

Badminton surrounds the GCSE curriculum with plenty of opportunities to enhance academic study and to develop other skills and interests. Physical Education, Music, Drama, Dance and Art can all be studied as academic subjects as well as offering girls the chance to hone their talents and to relax and enjoy themselves as their studies intensify.

Digital Explorers, Debating and a Science Outreach programme (where pupils take their science experience and experiments into local junior schools) sit alongside the chance to be trained as a Peer Mentor.

The Duke of Edinburgh Programme begins in Year 9 when girls can take the Bronze Award, and they can then take the Silver Award in Year 10 and the Gold Award in Lower Sixth. Participation is voluntary, but the majority of girls take part and all who do say how much they enjoy and learn from the programme. For more information please click:
