Dauntsey’s School is a co-educational boarding and day school, set in a 150-acre estate on the edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire in the west part of England. Dauntsey’s offers pupils challenge and inspiration both inside and outside the classroom.
Academic success is front and centre, but the ethos is about much more than exam grades. Their extensive education programme encourages pupils to develop important life skills, such as resilience, communication, creativity and teamwork.
The school’s lively and friendly atmosphere encourages pupils “to have a go”, try new things and so develop their self-confidence and self-belief.
The School curriculum is broad and balanced, offering the opportunity to study an extensive range of subjects. They have developed their own complementary curriculum which starts in the First Form, to cover other important areas like current affairs, study skills, mindfulness, critical thinking, money management and global issues.
The timetable offers a great deal of flexibility; there are no set options columns at I/GCSE and A-Level, allowing pupils freedom of choice to accommodate their different interests and aptitudes.
At the heart of our community is the House system, which creates a feeling of belonging and collective responsibility. In addition there is a network of care and support throughout the school, from the teaching staff to the nurses and counsellors, the chaplain to the domestic staff. There is an abundance of staff making sure that the mental, physical and spiritual needs of all pupils are met.
Dauntsey’s has a thriving boarding community, which makes up around half of the Upper School. Boarders come from throughout the UK and across the globe. All boarders live in one of the five boarding houses, each one being staffed by house-parents who live on-site with their families. The boarding houses rapidly become home-from-home and fellow boarders become extended family.
Boarders aged 11-13 start boarding at The Manor, a Victorian mansion set in 65 acres of grounds, a short walk from the main school site.
Dauntsey's prides itself on the wide range of clubs, societies and activities that exist to provide enrichment and breadth to the academic curriculum. All clubs are run by enthusiastic members of staff and many of these clubs have been started at the direct request of pupils.
Pupils at Dauntsey's are encouraged to develop a strong spirit of adventure and the curriculum includes a wide variety of adventurous programmes and challenges and the option to take part in expeditions both at home and abroad.
Sport, music and performance are also features of life at Dauntsey’s, with outstanding facilities to support a wide range of disciplines.
