Canada Education System
Canada has two official languages, English and French. Most international students study at private (fee paying) schools in Canada where they are boarders. In many private schools, students are taught in English but some institutions offer both languages.
The schooling system in Canada is similar to that in the USA. Elementary school is usually years 1 (age 6/7) to year 8 (age 13/14) then secondary school (High School) is grade 9 (age 14/15) – grade 12 (age 17/18). Post Secondary includes college, university etc.
The academic year runs from September to June.
Education in Canada is governed by each provincial and territorial government therefore there may be slight differences in each province. Education is important in Canada and, although institutions are not officially ranked, standards across the country are high.
