The Leys is unique in our place as the only independent co-educational boarding and day school in the world-renowned university city of Cambridge. We call ourselves the "big, small school".One of the things which makes The Leys such a special place is its size. We are determinedly a small school. It's partly because we're such a small school that we're able to get to know individual pupils so well. Our aim is for every boy and girl in the school to have that wonderful feeling of attempting the exceptional. To do this they need to feel confident that they will be well supported by their peers and the staff.

The Leys curriculum is not just about preparation for exams. It is broad and balanced, and the social, intellectual and emotional needs of our pupils drive our educational agenda. A happy child is a successful one.Our aim is to give pupils the confidence to fulfil their potential academically, to encourage them to work independently and collaboratively in a mutually supportive environment. The academic programme is rigorous and challenging, but pupils thrive in an atmosphere where they are encouraged to take risks and discover for themselves, an atmosphere where they are happy and where each pupil’s individual needs are recognised and provided for.

Our highly qualified and enthusiastic teaching staff know their pupils’ strengths and weaknesses and support them and help them to develop and grow in their particular areas of expertise. Relationships between the pupils and their teachers are excellent and this engenders mutual trust and respect.Pupils follow a broad programme in the initial years and start to specialise as they enter their GCSE years and then again in the Sixth Form. We have decided to keep faith with A levels, rather than introduce the International Baccalaureate. Nearly all of our pupils go on to University. Please visit for more information.

The emotional, physical and spiritual health of our pupils is as important to us as their academic progress. Our pupils join us at the start of their journey into adulthood. They will be faced with many challenges where they have to consider what values they hold, how they want to present themselves to the world and who they want to be. This is a journey that should not be made alone, so at the Leys we have in place a range of pastoral support to nurture and guide pupils. Please visit for further information.

Sport is a crucial element of the educational experience we offer at The Leys. The variety, depth and quality of our provision are essential components in generating an atmosphere in which our pupils can both develop and enjoy their sport, while also creating an awareness of the relationship between constructive exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
