New Building Developments

In 2020 the university's new GBP 45 million Carnegie School of Sport building was completed. This new facility is home to dedicated research laboratories, a 60-metre indoor athletics track, a nutrition teaching kitchen, high-performance strength and conditioning facility, a human movement research laboratory, two environmental chambers and a Performance Analysis Lab.

In 2021 the university's GBP 80 million School of Arts building opened. It is packed with the latest specialist facilities, including professional TV, film and music recording studios, a performance theatre and Dolby Atmos movie cinema.

In 2022, the university's GBP 9 million Clinical and Multiprofessional Skills Suite and Biomedical Sciences teaching laboratory opened. The Biomedical Sciences teaching laboratory is home to a 60-person laboratory, a tissue culture site and new state-of-the-art equipment. The Clinical and Multiprofessional Skills Suite contains two ten-bed hospital wards and a fully immersive three-bedroom hospital simulation space housing three simulation manikins.

Virtual Open Day

Leeds Beckett University has a virtual campus tour allowing students to explore the two impressive campuses from the comfort of their own homes.

Global Village

The Leeds Beckett Global Village is made up of students and staff who are here to help international students settle into life in Leeds and make new friends. Teaching excellence is at the heart of academic practice at Leeds Beckett, and the university works hard to provide a superb learning experience, built upon the foundation of an extremely high standard of teaching. The university has a strategic plan to maintain and enhance the quality of their tuition, which is based on conducting leading research and enterprise, while fostering a diverse community of people and sustainable resourcing.

Leeds Beckett has been highly rated in recent national teaching assessments and continues to improve the quality of its service. Teaching staff make use of a variety of methods and modern technologies to ensure a versatile taught curriculum which offers many different types of learning. Students benefit from increased contact time with their tutors, which results in a more personalised learning experience.

Many courses are accredited by leading professional bodies, and students can rest assured that their tuition is informed by best practices. Leeds Law School ranked 15th out of all law schools in England in the National Student Survey 2023. The School of Events and Hospitality was ranked in the top 50 best schools globally by the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2022. The School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computer was ranked top 30 in the UK for computer science and information systems. Leeds Beckett has also climbed 40 places in the 2024 Complete University Guide, showing the biggest increase of any institution in the national table.

Study options

Study options

Leeds Beckett University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as specialised courses for English language and university preparation. All programmes have a focus on making students highly attractive to future employers.

English and University preparation courses

Leeds Beckett has a variety of courses that help students improve their qualifications and English language ability, most of which are accredited by the British Council. The university's pre-sessional courses are completed before students start their course in September or January.

International Foundation Year

For students whose first language is not English, the International Foundation Year equips them with the necessary English language ability and subject-specific knowledge to study an undergraduate degree in the UK.

Pre-sessional courses

Successful completion of a pre-sessional course will meet the English language requirement of Leeds Beckett University for courses requiring IELTS 6.0 or 6.5, so students will not need to take an additional IELTS test.

Undergraduate degrees (BA, BSc, BEng, LLB)

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Academic entry requirements vary from course to course. Students are encouraged to refer to the course listing on the university website.

English language requirements

If a student's first language is not English, they will need to submit evidence of their English language ability. This is an important requirement and is essential if they are applying for a Student Visa. The most common qualification the university accepts is IELTS, but Pearson and TOEFL are also widely accepted English language qualifications. The following are the typical required scores for the tests (these may vary by course):

  • IELTS: 6.0 with no skill below 5.5
  • Pearson – PTE Academic: Total of 54 (minimum of 51 in all components)
  • ESOL Skills for Life: Level 1 (pass in all four components)
  • TOEFL iBT: Total of 79 to 89. Minimum for reading (18), listening (17) and speaking (20)

Clinical Skills Suite

The modern Clinical Skills Suite has been designed to meet the learning needs of a variety of health professionals, with specialist equipment in purpose-built rooms where a range of sessions can be carried out in a suitable and safe environment.

Biomedical Science laboratories

This modern, purpose-built multidisciplinary space contains a range of the latest scientific testing equipment, walk-in cold and warm rooms and state-of-the-art IT.

Film studios, production offices and edit suites

Northern Film School gives students access to the latest production and editing software, so they can create and develop films, work with performers and bring their ideas to life.

Music studios

Leeds Beckett's specialist music studios give students the tools to write, produce and record music the way they want. It's an opportunity to hit the right notes in mixing their own tunes for music, games audio and TV.

Sports facilities

Carnegie Sports Centre offers an extensive range of high-quality sport and fitness facilities including tennis courts, a swimming pool, fitness suites, sports halls and a running track. Sport science students have access to specialist science laboratories and equipment including cardio-respiratory analysis, DXA bone scanner and an anti-gravity treadmill.

Performing arts

The performing arts facilities include black box rehearsal and performance studios, equipped with theatre lighting and sound systems, and access to professional dance studios at Northern Ballet's newly built Centre of Dance.

Student money and advice

The Student Money Team administers the Hardship Funds and U.S./Canadian loans. Students can receive specialist advice about funding, budgeting, debt and welfare benefits.

Student Immigration Advice and Compliance

The Student Immigration Advice and Compliance team is available to provide help for international students throughout their stay at Leeds Beckett. The team can give advice for issues such as visas, immigration status, post-study working, pre-departure support and much more.

Scholarships and funding

Alumni discount

A 20 percent discount of the tuition fees for the first year of study is available to eligible Leeds Beckett graduates who register for postgraduate study (terms and conditions apply).
