Overview

Overview

A prestigious institution, the University of Glasgow has been educating students since 1451. Ranked in the top 100 universities in the world, Glasgow is the fourth-oldest higher education provider in the UK.

The University of Glasgow is a truly international organisation, opening its doors to students and staff from over 140 countries. Additionally, it is a founding member of Universitas 21, a network of research-focused institutions which work to improve the standards of higher education worldwide.

Students can choose from over 600 different courses on offer at the institution, and can seek guidance from a brilliant student support service that helps with queries about workload, life in the UK, or even how to pay tuition fees. Students can also use the university's Internship Hub, which offers over 350 internship opportunities every year.

Glasgow has a number of notable alumni, too. From Joseph Lister, who introduced the world to antiseptic, all the way to Nicola Sturgeon, the current First Minister of Scotland. It even welcomed Albert Einstein in 1933 to give a lecture on the theory of relativity.

Ideal for international students, Glasgow is well-known as the cultural capital of Scotland. It has numerous vibrant museums, galleries and performing arts centres, as well as stunning examples of architecture.

With 95.9% of graduates being employed or involved in further study 12 months after leaving the university, students can feel confident that a degree from Glasgow will leave them ready to take the step into employment after graduation.

What's new

The university is investing GBP 1 billion into a new campus which will benefit students for years to come. Some features include a learning hub, and a research hub.

James McCune Smith Learning Hub

This will provide a dynamic creative space for students. There will be flexible study and social learning areas, where many styles of technology-led teaching can take place. Students will have round-the-clock access to this building.

Research Hub

This Hub will provide the university, for the first time, a space for nurturing interdisciplinary thematic research ‘at scale' – crossing traditional boundaries and established ways of working. There will be an Innovation Accelerator area, where top-quality office and laboratory spaces can facilitate for entrepreneurs and corporate spin-offs. This will allow for partnerships between corporate research groups and wider university programmes.

The University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh are the only two universities in Scotland to be chosen for the scheme.

The scheme intends to make the process simpler for international students who intend to study in the UK for a maximum of 13 months, and then to receive a work visa and work in a graduate role. It will give them the chance to stay in the UK for a further six months after the end of their master's course. Students can head to the website to see a list of the different courses available.
