About University of Essex
The University of Essex is a public research university in Essex, England. It was established in 1963 and received university status by royal charter in 1965. Like many other universities established around that time, it is a plate glass university.
The University has three campuses with its primary campus located within Wivenhoe Park, a campus in Southend-on-Sea and in Loughton where the East 15 Acting School is based.
Essex is a founding partner of the Eastern ARC and the Young European Research Universities network; and is part of the Young Universities for the Future of Europe alliance, which was selected by the European Commission to create one of the first European Universities, cross-border alliances of higher education institutions also promoting staff and student mobility; and is a member of Universities UK. The university has produced many notable alumni in several fields, including two Nobel Prize laureates, a head of state, foreign ministers, MPs, scientists, artists, politicians, authors, and filmmakers.
