About

Headington School is a day and boarding school for girls, located just one mile away from Oxford City centre with 23 acres which encompass plenty of green space with the school's boarding houses and an array of learning facilities.

Academic

There is a strong academic focus, especially in the Sixth Form, with girls consistently obtaining top results at A-Level and specialist programmes are offered for Medicine and Veterinary Science, Architecture and Law. Preparing the pupils for the future starts early at Headington, from work experience and careers programmes starting in U3 including 1:1 chats, careers profiling, talks and lectures from inspirational professionals. Pupils can also access our extensive alumni support network, Headington Connect, offering our current girls mentoring and work experience opportunities. Strong links to Oxford and Oxford Brookes universities with lectures, workshops and visits both at Headington and at university facilities. A new Creativity & Innovation centre called the Hive places an emphasis on cross-curricular learning and the development of the essential human skills of creativity and problem-solving.

Wellbeing

For many girls, it will be their first time living away from the family home and for some, home itself will be a long way away with no immediate family close by. The school has a network of pastoral support in place 24/7 to make sure there is always someone for the girls to turn to if they need help or support - from peer support from prefects, to graduate boarding assistants, right up to Head of Boarding. The staff get to know the girls really well and are in regular contact with their teachers during the school day. Plenty of opportunities for one-to-one chats helps to identify any potential issues early on and provide support and care to every girl throughout their time at Headington.

Boarding

Headington prides itself on a warm, supportive boarding community and recognise that no two families are alike, so offer lots of flexibility for those who want to board at Headington, with full, weekly, half-weekly and occasional boarding all on offer. They aim for all boarders to feel at home and we want parents to feel confident that their child is not just safe and happy but truly thriving.

Extra-curricular

Boarding at Headington makes it much easier to play a full part in the huge range of extra-curricular activities on offer. There are more than 100 activities on offer to all girls each week, covering the Creative Arts, Sport, Leadership and Adventure, Dance, Drama, Music and Academic Enrichment, capturing their imagination and enrich the learning experience.

There is a whole host of special activities for boarders. These range from simple craft activities in house, to designated boarder access to our Dance and Fitness Centre and Swimming Pool. There are regular trips to activities, from trampolining parks to cultural excursions and social events with other schools.
