Course Advice

Each course is a unique mix of many different ingredients — from the subjects covered, to the campus location, to the career it leads to. Whether you’re still considering possible courses, tossing up between two fields of study or have no idea what kind of career you want, your IDP counsellor can help you find the best course for you and coordinate your university application.

Find the best fit

With so many courses and universities to choose from, deciding where and what to study can be a daunting task.

Our team are backed by a sophisticated knowledge matching system that contains all the latest information on our partner institutions, including schools, English language colleges, vocational colleges and universities.

Some of the key considerations we cover in our consultations are:

Subject matter

It may seem obvious, but your education, experiences and topics of interest are the first step to finding your dream course. Your IDP counsellor will work with you to map out a shortlist and dive down deep into the detail of course handbooks and subject choices.

Timelines and budgets

Knowing how much a course will cost and how much you can afford to spend on your education are important factors in choosing where to study. Your IDP counsellor will also talk you through the practicalities of when you can apply to study and when you can commence your course in different destinations.

Career goals

Your chosen course should put you on a path to a profession you’ll love. Your IDP counsellor can give you advice on the course that can get you where you want to be.

Course experience and campus life

The environment and social culture of a university are important factors in determining how satisfied and happy you’ll be in your course. Every student’s preferences are different. You may thrive in a lively city campus, or you might prefer a smaller, rural location. You might want a campus with lots of cultural diversity or one with active clubs and societies. We’ll take all of this into account as we help you select your choice.

Apply with confidence

IDP takes the hassle out of submitting your university and school applications.

Your IDP counsellor will submit your applications on your behalf. They will supply the institution course application documents, compile your applications, certify supporting documents and send your application directly to the university or school.

Get ready to go

You will receive a response from the institution usually within 2-6 weeks of your application being submitted. When an institution offers you a place in a course, you will receive an offer letter. In some cases, education institution representatives can assess your eligibility for the course and print an offer letter during your interview at our office or at one of IDP’s many international student events throughout the year.

Acceptance and payment

If there are no conditions on your offer letter that you need to meet, you can accept the offer immediately. (Examples of conditions that could be specified include supplying a new IELTS test result, supplying an academic transcript of recently completed study, or supplying certified documents).

Offers can be accepted at an IDP office, with a deposit being paid directly to the school or university that has made the offer. Your counsellor will guide you through this process to help make it easy.
