Leading work at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab from Baylor's Young Alum of the Year

Richa Sirohi, recently recognised as the Young Alum of the Year at Baylor University, never expected a career at NASA during her time growing up in Nebraska. Yet from her beginnings as the daughter of immigrants from northern India, Sirohi always demonstrated a keen interest in technology and space.

After coming to Baylor to complete a major in mechanical engineering, she secured a summer internship at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Soon moving onto a full-time job there, today she works as an end-to-end systems engineer, focusing on NISAR – a specialised spacecraft that helps build understanding of how the Earth is changing through radar imaging.

It's not only her professional success that has earned Sirohi the Young Alumna of the Year award, but her continued investment in supporting and inspiring other students – not only at Baylor, but at other institutions across the US.

''As a woman in STEM ... in a male-dominated field that doesn't have a lot of South Asian-Americans, especially in aerospace, I've reached a point where you can see yourself in me. You can achieve these things, and there is support for you.'' – Richa Sirohi
