The University of Wolverhampton, based in the West Midlands in the UK, is an international university that has been providing academic excellence for more than 190 years.

Located only 20km from Birmingham, the UK's second largest city, the university has over 24,000 students from more than 130 countries worldwide. It has three main campuses in Wolverhampton, Telford, and Walsall, offering internationally recognised qualifications.

Wolverhampton has excellent transport links, with Birmingham only 18 minutes away and London 90 minutes away by train. Wolverhampton offers a cheap cost of living compared to other UK cities. The University of Wolverhampton's proud history began in 1827, and it has since grown into a global university that provides opportunities to students from around the world. World-leading academics help students to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in the connected international economy.

The university was commended by the Quality Assurance Agency (which assesses UK higher education) for the enhancement of student learning opportunities. In the QS Stars international rating system in 2023, the university was awarded four stars overall and a full five stars in the areas of teaching, internationalisation, employability, facilities and inclusiveness. More than half of its research is rated as internationally excellent or world-leading by the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.

Wolverhampton has invested millions in recent years into world-class facilities to ensure students have an enriching university experience. The university expands its international reach by working with institutions across the globe to deliver high-quality academic programmes. Wolverhampton enjoys a 90 percent graduate employability rate, according to the Graduate Outcomes Report of 2023, and has a global alumni network of around 140,000 graduates, offering lifelong support for its students' personal and professional aspirations.

What's new

Springfield Campus The university's architecture and built environment super-campus opened in October 2020, and was named by framework provider Pagabo as its ‘best project above GBP 15 million'. This stunning set of facilities for construction excellence is based at the city's former Springfield Brewery site and was completed to rave reviews.

Marches Centre for Excellence in Health – This GBP 5 million project was completed and opened in March 2021, and uses cutting-edge technology to revolutionise the way in which health-based learning is delivered. The centre will see over 1,000 students enrolled in the first four years of operation and will provide 72 jobs, as well as two new apprenticeship programmes, with 174 apprentice opportunities.

Midlands Centre for Cyber Security – This joint venture between the university and Herefordshire Council provides office space for cyber business, advanced training options to tackle threats in cyberspace, and, through the Wolverhampton Cyber Research Institute (WCRI), the opportunity to expand the understanding of the high-tech world of cyber-crime, offering better defence solutions against this growing threat.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

In the latest National Student Survey (2023), the university scored highly for student satisfaction for course teaching, with 87 percent of students expressing praise for the quality of tuition.

Furthermore, five courses scored 100 percent satisfaction with course teaching: education studies, football coaching & performance, professional policing, sport & exercise science, and sport & exercise therapy.

Research

Research is at the heart of many aspects of the University of Wolverhampton, covering a wide variety of disciplines. During the last 20 years, the university has invested heavily in its research activity. This outstanding work achieved has resulted in national and international recognition.

The results of the Research Excellence Framework (2021) show that more than half of the university's research is judged as internationally excellent or world leading. Sixteen areas have research of world-leading standard, including the university's work on changing perceptions of the Black Country, eliminating gender and race discrimination, and improving health outcomes for all.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

International students from all over the world are welcome to apply to the University of Wolverhampton. Prospective students can visit specific country pages to see what qualifications are accepted from their country.

All students must have a good level of English language proficiency, as courses are instructed in English. Those whose native language is not English, and who don't have a GCSE in English language or equivalent, must meet the minimum language requirements. The university accepts various academic qualifications which are recognised globally as equivalent to UK Level Three or above. Generally, students will need one of the following qualifications, at the relevant level:

  • TOEFL
  • PTE
  • Oxford International Digital Institute English Language Level Test

Facilities

Facilities

Buildings

To support students, the university has invested millions of GBP in buildings and facilities. Facilities include the Springfield Campus, the Rosalind Franklin Building for science, and the Lord Swraj Paul Building which houses the University of Wolverhampton Business School.

Libraries

Each campus is equipped with a library containing all the reference and study material required for all the courses on offer, in both digital and book format. Study spaces, group work learning areas and support services are all available too. The libraries are open 24/7 at the peak study times throughout the academic year.

Accommodation

International students can opt to live on campus in university-owned accommodation, with either shared or private bathrooms. Residences are safe and monitored 24/7 by university security staff. Utilities and internet are included.

Sports

There are numerous sports facilities for students to make use of, mainly based at the Walsall Campus, such as a 3G football pitch, sports halls, fitness suites, outdoor and indoor courts, and sprint tracks.
