Essex is ranked 13th for Law in the UK in the THE World University Rankings (2021). At Essex we teach the law that matters. We are freer, more daring and more experimental than many traditional law schools and our Human Rights Centre is a recognised international leader. Gain practical experience with our Essex Law Clinic and Human Rights Clinic.

We all need a bit of support and guidance from time to time. That’s where our friendly Student Support staff can help. They offer free, confidential advice and information on all kinds of welfare issues. Whether you’re worried about money, need guidance on immigration, or are struggling with your studies, our Student Services Hub are always on hand to help during your time with us.

We know you will be concerned about what the impact of COVID-19 means both for your university application and, for your university experience when you start with us. We have been working hard to ensure that our applicants are able to start with us, in whatever way possible.

COVID vaccines are available in the UK, and provided free via the NHS. The UK Government is currently predicting that all UK adults aged over 18 will be vaccinated by July 2021. We expect that vaccines will be given to international students after they arrive in the UK if they have not already been vaccinated. We have health services available locally to all campuses (doctors surgery on Colchester Campus) and NHS hospitals close to all of our campuses. You will be able to access these (and wider health care) through the fee paid for health cover.

Current UK requirements are that students arriving from amber list countries must self-isolate for 10 days but do not need to stay in dedicated quarantine hotels.

If you have an Accommodation Essex accommodation allocation for the academic year 2021-2022, the University will be offering on-campus accommodation for your period of self-isolation. Current UK requirements means that students arriving from amber list countries must quarantine for 10 days. This accommodation will be provided to you free of charge from the date you arrive, to when your normal accommodation tenancy starts.

When you receive your accommodation allocation and have accepted this offer, you will be invited to make a booking for the free accommodation in order to self-isolate. You will be able to arrive from 13 September.

On arrival, you will move in and self-isolate in your term-time room, if this is available. If your term-time room is not available, you will self-isolate in on-campus temporary accommodation and then move to your permanent term-time address at the end of your period of self-isolation. If you are planning to live in private sector accommodation, you will need to self-isolate in your private sector accommodation on arrival.
