King’s College is a co-educational day and boarding school, located in the heart of the Somerset countryside in the town of Taunton.  It has a vibrant and busy community made up of boys and girls from the South West of England, further afield in the UK and from overseas. This mix works extremely well.

Pupils are challenged by enthusiastic and dedicated specialist teachers both inside and outside the classroom. Careful planning has devised a programme of visits, lectures, tutoring and prep to support learning. House-based tutors each support seven or eight boys or girls throughout their time at the school.

As a member school of the Woodard Corporation, pastoral care is at the heart of everything done at King’s, and ISI Inspections consistently awarded the highest accolades possible for their level of pastoral care. King’s are committed to ensuring that every pupil is known and valued as an individual and that the structures of support are close and effective. Each pupil has a tutor who will support them in their whole school life, not just their academic studies.  Tutors are experienced at putting together individual plans to ensure each pupil is happy and thriving as well as achieving.

There is a strong boarding ethos at King’s, who believe that boarding is a rich and life-affirming experience for pupils. Boarders come from far and wide. Many are local, others come from the southwest of England, while others are from further afield in the UK and some from overseas. This makes for a varied and vibrant community within the houses. Wherever pupils come from, they soon develop a strong sense of loyalty to their house, which makes for exciting and hotly contested inter-house competition in sports and many other activities.

King’s has a vast array of co-curricular activities, from sport and drama to music and outdoor pursuits, CCF and dance to cookery and debating. Outdoor activities are well catered for under the umbrella of the CCF (Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Army sections), and alongside that, the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Gold award schemes. Kayaking and water polo are popular, as is climbing as there is an indoor wall and climbing club.

Sport is pivotal to the all-round development of pupils, providing engagement, responsibility and enjoyment. King's sports programmes are built on the ideals of a healthy and balanced lifestyle with the aim of actively enabling young people to take on a variety of challenges to help build confidence, take leadership roles and enable them to work as part of a team.

Alongside sports and co-curricular activities, there is a thriving artistic and cultural life. The drama and music departments create a full schedule of pupil-led events and performances.
