About
King’s Ely is a leading independent day and boarding school nestled in the cathedral city of Ely in Cambridgeshire. Ely is 15 minutes from Cambridge and one hour from London, with direct rail links to both.
King’s Ely is a vibrant and inclusive community that has prepared children’s futures for a millennium, making it one of the oldest schools in the world.
Academic
King’s Ely students achieve excellent GCSE and A-Level results with 100% of students securing a university place last year.
Wellbeing
Deemed in recent inspection reports to be ‘outstanding’, pastoral care at King’s Ely underpins all that they do, the belief being that children will achieve more when they are content and fulfilled.
Celebrating success and embracing natural curiosities, emerging talents or abilities is a feature of the King’s Ely approach. Form Tutors are the children’s everyday point of contact. Also looking to support and nurture are the day Housemasters and Housemistresses, Heads of Year, and the Assistant and Deputy Heads. The wider pastoral network includes a full-time Chaplain, Community Welfare Advisor, the Medical Centre team and independent counsellors, ensuring that the children are supported in appropriate and effective ways.
Boarding
King’s Ely offers full, weekly and flexible boarding. Priory House, home to Junior boarders, is 14th Century, very Hogwarts and a huge hit with families, both from the UK and overseas.
Around 75% of boarders stay in school at weekends, during which they enjoy all sorts of activities and trips. Visiting the Cambridgeshire Water Park in summer is particularly popular, as are trips to Ely Cinema and museums in nearby Cambridge.
Extra-curricular
King’s Ely has a holistic ethos and this is reflected in the energy invested in the range of co-curricular offerings. Junior children enjoy clubs like Archery, Pottery and Golf, and Senior pupils enjoy clubs like Clay Pigeon Shooting, History Café and Language Leaders. The choices are endless, ensuring that there is something for everyone!
