Supporting entrepreneurs

Students can gain support through Accelerator, the university's business incubator. Accelerator supports students who want to set up their own business and welcomes them into a thriving community of entrepreneurs.

London Met Lab

London Met is on a mission to tackle the inequalities facing London to improve people's lives and to deliver social justice.

The university works with more than 600 partner organisations including local authorities, NHS Trusts, sports clubs, third sector organisations, higher education institutions and businesses, to tackle the challenges facing the city and its communities.

As part of its mission to give back to the community, London Met has several university clinics that are open to the public, offering cost-effective or free services. These include a pro-bono legal advice service, as well as an injury and rehabilitation clinic.

Cyber Security Research Centre

Situated within the School of Computing and Digital Media, the Cyber Security Research Centre is a space where academics and businesses can meet and work together to solve cyber security problems of significance for business and for society. Its core activities include:

  • teaching of digital forensics, data analytics and cyber security in a secure environment
  • research into cyber security at postgraduate and doctorate level
  • industrial research, innovation and consultancy projects in cyber security

Academics and courses

London Met lecturers have extensive industry experience and are actively involved in world-class research. Their knowledge is passed onto students studying at London Met.

The university develops courses that are based on industry needs and are specifically created to address skill shortages in the job market. As well as ranking in the top 50 UK universities for graduate salaries (Daily Mail University Guide 2024), many Of London Met's courses are also ranked highly by students:

  • Top 5 in London for the teaching of dietetics and nutrition (National Student Survey 2022)
  • 1st in London and top 5 in the UK for the teaching of performing arts (National Student Survey 2023)

School structure

School structure

London Met is comprised of six specialist schools, offering a range of courses. Students have access to high-quality facilities and are led by dedicated and experienced teaching staff.

The six schools are:

Guildhall School of Business and Law

Offering a dynamic portfolio of courses across business, law and languages, students have access to several top-of-the-range facilities including a mock courtroom, Bloomberg financial data software and an interpreting suite.

School of Computing and Digital Media

Teaching high-tech courses including computer science, creative technologies, electronics, cyber security and journalism. Students gain practical experience in some of the most advanced Cisco labs in London, plus a newsroom and TV studio.

School of Human Sciences

Ranging from nursing and dietetics to biomedical science, chemistry and sports therapy, students carry out practical experiments in London Met's GBP 30 million Science Centre, one of the largest and most advanced science teaching facilities in Europe.

School of Social Sciences and Professions

The School of Social Sciences and Professions aims to effect change in society through demonstrating the value of social sciences and professions. Many of its courses are endorsed and accredited by professional bodies to help graduates secure jobs in the public sector, non-governmental organisations or private companies.

School of Art, Architecture and Design

Located in the thriving art district of east London, students have access to specialist workshops and equipment including digital manufacturing facilities and editing suites. The school also connects students with industry professionals to further enhance graduate career prospects.

School of the Built Environment

London Met's School of the Built Environment focuses on the design, planning, financing, construction, sale and operation of places within which we live, work, travel and play.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

London Met's entry requirements vary depending on the course. Students are encouraged to visit individual course pages on the website for more information on specific entry requirements. Students should also check on the specific documentation necessary to make an application.

All applicants must be able to demonstrate the required competency in the English language. Those who require a student visa may have to provide a Secure English Language Test (SELT), for example, the IELTS Academic test.

For students who still need to meet the English language requirements necessary for admission there are pre-sessional academic English courses available. These courses are available for both bachelor's and master's students who need to develop their English language skills before starting their degree.

International Foundation Programme

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a programme built for students who require further support before they can transition into bachelor's level study at London Met. They'll have already completed high school or some university education overseas.

Students from non-European/non-EEA country are required to take a UK visas and immigration (UKVI) approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) from a UKVI approved centre in order to study one of London Met's International Foundation Programmes. All applicants who are not from a majority English-speaking nationality will need to comply with these requirements, as well as those who don't have a previous degree studied and awarded from a majority English speaking nation.

Student support

Student support

London Met's experienced staff support students throughout their studies, including providing advice and support for academic, personal, financial, disability and accommodation issues. Students can find help through one-to-one meetings, as well as over the phone and by email.

The university strives to create a safe and secure environment for all its students, staff and visitors across its two campuses and various sites.

London Met also offers a range of funding and scholarship opportunities to support international students. Students are encouraged to visit the university's website for more information. The university also actively supports students in finding part-time work alongside their studies.

The students' union provides a place for students to access independent advice as well as clubs, societies, activities and much more. A dedicated counselling service supports personal development and helps students deal with any issues of emotional wellbeing.

There is also a specialist Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit (RAGU) which provides advice, guidance and development for refugee health professionals.
