About
Bedford School (‘Independent Boys’ School of the Year 2021’) is a leading independent boy boarding and day school, located in a beautiful 50-acre estate in the heart of Bedford, a market town less than 40 minutes by train from London and within an hour of Heathrow Airport. From the classroom to the sports field, in laboratories and theatres, on excursions and exchanges, boys are challenged academically, socially and culturally.
Academic
Central to life at Bedford School is academic excellence. Boys are encouraged to aspire to the highest possible standards and exceed their expectations. The school's success is demonstrated by a long history of impressive exam results at GCSE, A-Level and in the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Wellbeing
Bedford School seeks to raise good people first and foremost; and then to allow them to flourish as academics, as sportsmen, as artists and above all as themselves, in a supportive and ambitious atmosphere. Dedicated to nurturing a wide variety of individual interests and ensuring the boys love their childhood. In this all-boys environment, boys can develop without inhibition and awkwardness, and feel able and keen to participate to the fullest.
Boarding
Boarders lie at the heart of the school’s community. The Prep School caters for the youngest boarders (aged 9-13), while six Victorian villas, offer Upper School boys a true ‘home from home’ experience. Day and boarding houses are paired and participate jointly in house activities and competitions; this adds to the camaraderie and sense of community.
Extra-curricular
Bedford is also renowned for its strengths in the creative arts, music and sport. Outside the classroom, boys enjoy an outstanding variety of extracurricular activities and societies.
When it is time to take the next step, each boy leaves as a good man, secure in his values, happy and ready to take his place in the world.
