About

St Catherine’s was founded in 1885 and is proud to have the Queen Consort as our Patron.  Her great-great grandfather, Baron Ashcombe, was a founder of St Catherine’s. The School is unequivocally for girls; one where in and outside the classroom, we offer your daughter the experiences, opportunities and support to build her confidence and capabilities. We are located 40 minutes from Gatwick and Heathrow in the countryside on a 23-acre site.

Academic

Girls benefit from the very best teaching. In 2022 we delivered impressive academic results, 90% A*-B at A Level and 70% Grade 9- 7 at GCSE enabling 90% of girls to go to their 1st choice University. In 2022, 58% went to Russell Group universities, 6% to Oxbridge and 11% overseas. While 60% of girls study science and Maths at A Level and we are equally committed to the power of the creative arts offering Fine Art, Ceramics, Textiles and Design & Technology in a new Art & MakerSpace.

Wellbeing

We have 18 staff with a wellbeing remit - from our Chaplain to our Medical team, Housemistresses and academic mentoring staff – all help support girls physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual development and wellbeing. A girl’s ‘community within a community’ is her School House, her Boarding Housemistress is a constant guide and through our ‘Life Matters’ curriculum we teach the girls to support each other, be self-aware and make positive choices.

Boarding

The successful blending of day girls with boarders (25% of the community), offers your daughter a truly British education with the opportunity of a global network of friends and academic peers from 26 different nationalities. There are four age-specific Boarding Houses organised by Year Groups. All our Boarding Housemistresses are teachers, they will nurture, encourage and help your daughter to organise her life and gain independence, complete her studies, and support her in all her activities.

Extra-curricular

Girls can find their interests and strengths – be it in sport, drama, ceramics, chess, debating, business enterprise or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Musicians benefit from the Anniversary Halls’ impressive acoustics and full orchestra pit and our Dance School offers classes in ballet, jazz, tap and modern.
