About

Community
Oundle School is one of Britain’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools for pupils aged 11 - 18. Founded in 1556, it is situated in the quintessentially English market town of Oundle, about 130 kilometres north of London. School buildings, dating from the 17th to the 21st centuries, are dispersed throughout the town (population 6,000), which is, to a large extent, the School's campus.

Oundle is now the third largest independent boarding and day school in England, with 860 full boarders and 250 day pupils. The boarders come from 120 prep schools from all over the United Kingdom, with about 17% coming from over 30 countries overseas. Pupils benefit from a quintessentially British curriculum which fosters a strong sense of cultural diversity.

Each pupil is a member of a boarding or day House. The House system is at the heart of life at Oundle. It is in the smaller community of the House that most pupils find the confidence and sense of purpose that lead to fulfilment in the larger School community. Oundle has 13 senior boarding houses – 8 for boys and 5 for girls - with about 60 pupils in each. In addition, there is a mixed junior boarding House of about 40 pupils for entry at 11+ or 12+.

Academic
Oundle has a worldwide reputation for academic, musical and sporting excellence. 81% of A Level grades were A*/A/B, with 21% awarded at A*. 82% of GCSE grades were A* and A. An average of twenty pupils are offered places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities each year. The School, however, prides itself on extending and stretching pupils beyond exam results. Over half of all pupils play musical instruments and benefit from a unique partnership with the Royal College of Music in London. The range of subjects available to study is extensive, with 28 subjects offered in the Sixth Form at A Level or Pre-U standard. There are almost unlimited options for sport and extra curricular activities.

Pastoral
Pupils at Oundle School have a strong circle of support from which to draw. Hsms, matrons, tutors and teachers are well equipped to help pupils with the various types of issues they may encounter during their school career.

In response to a nationally growing focus on mental health over recent times, Oundle School has further strengthened its provision to facilitate pupil well-being. The Clayton Rooms (located above the Health Centre) provide a dedicated space for the Emotional Wellbeing Team (EWT) which provides educational and therapeutic support for children. The promotion of positive emotional well being and early intervention is at the heart of the service’s ethos. In the summer of 2016, the School appointed a Mental Health Lead, and encouraged over 100 existing members of staff, including all Hsms and Matrons, to undertake Mental Health First Aid training.

Oundle has further developed its Healthy Mind Curriculum which outlines the School’s aims to promote well-being and ensure that mental health issues are understood and non-stigmatised by all members of the School community. The Healthy Mind Curriculum has ten ambitious aspirations and, along with the work of the EWT, responds to the Department for Education’s advice Counselling in schools. These initiatives, together with ongoing improvements to Personal, Social and Health Education and comprehensive developments to the School’s Safeguarding Training programme demonstrate Oundle’s continued commitment to outstanding pastoral care.

Sport and Culture
Oundle School has recently embarked on the development of a multi-faceted, multi-functional sports facility which will offer maximum flexibility in the provision of sport and physical well-being activities. The development will foster the physical well-being of every Oundle pupil, enabling all to take part in any sport, physical exercise or leisure activity to which they are suited with the aim of cultivating a lifelong interest.
Sport will play a full role in developing the character of our pupils, promoting social interaction, teamwork and leadership outside the classroom. The development will help every Oundle pupil find what they are good at and enable staff to support him/her to be even better.

Oundle's competitive teams and athletes will have access to the very best environment and support which underpins the focus on coaching excellence.
