About

Uppingham is a leading independent boarding school in the UK for boys and girls.  The school is rich in heritage and history, but very much forward-thinking in its outlook and approach. Located in the small market town of Uppingham in Rutland, approximately 1.5 hours north of Cambridge, the school’s houses are found throughout the town, providing an atmosphere that pupils cherish.

Academic

Inspired by the former headmaster and renowned Victorian educator Edward Thring, Uppingham offers its pupils a broad curriculum in which they can discover their passion and navigate their chosen path in life. Alongside a strong academic profile, outstanding pastoral care and an excellent reputation, the school offers state-of-the-art facilities for science, music, sport and the performing arts.

Wellbeing

Uppingham understands that providing exceptional pastoral care and prioritising the wellbeing of pupils is integral to the success of the school. Each of Uppingham’s 15 boarding houses provides a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere where pupils feel supported and cared for, developing a sense of belonging that stays with the pupils for life. Pupils value the feeling of mutual support and respect that their community provides.

Boarding

Uppingham is a full boarding school, where pupils enjoy an immersive seven-days-a-week boarding experience. Each of the 15 boarding houses provides pupils with a home away from home, where they can study, relax, eat, and enjoy the company of their peers.

Extra-curricular

Uppingham values the importance of a full and varied curriculum, pioneered by our eminent Victorian Headmaster, Edward Thring. With a full Enrichment programme, pupils are encouraged to try new activities outside of the academic curriculum, where they can discover new passions, develop soft skills and make new friends. The School’s ‘Upp and Out’ initiative allows pupils to volunteer and offer their time to those in the wider community, supporting their participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. From drama and music, to sport and creative arts, there are plentiful options for pupils to get involved in.
