Overview

Oregon State University provides students with the West Coast's most valuable degree. Students, faculty and alumni at OSU focus on the science of sustainable ecosystems for the earth, health and wellness, economic prosperity and social progress. This includes technological innovations such as artificial intelligence, robots and earthquake-proof building systems. Students join OSU to make real impacts on campus and around the world.

OSU hosts over 30,000 students, including nearly 3,000 international students originating from 95+ countries. There are hundreds of clubs, societies and organizations for students to get involved in, and they are great opportunities to enjoy student life outside of the classroom.

More than 200 undergraduate and 80+ graduate degree programs are delivered through 11 colleges, the Graduate School and the Honors College. The programs at OSU provide students hands on learning. OSU is not a lecture only institution, but a place to kickstart a career.

Corvallis is an ideal place to live for international students because of its location and record of safety.Placed in the middle of the West Coast where innovation happens in the US, OSU has worked closely with the tech and computer industry for almost five decades. Department structure

Department structure

Students can choose from a number of pathway programs, undergraduate or graduate programs at Oregon State University:

Undergraduate First-Year

Students on this program will begin as degree-seeking students and receive the support they require to succeed, including an individual study plan and personalised advice and guidance.

International Year One

Students on this program will earn degree credits while they improve their academic and English skills. Students will be able to complete a pathway program which is suited to their English proficiency levels for up to four semesters, working towards their chosen undergraduate program.

Undergraduate Transfer Program

Students that have already completed a college or university course and wish to transfer to OSU can complete this Undergraduate Transfer Program, which allows students to transfer their university credits over.

Direct Entry Graduate

Students who satisfy the minimum academic requirements of holding a bachelor's degree, alongside the minimum English language proficiency level, will be able to apply directly to OSU for entry onto a postgraduate program.

Graduate Pathway Program

This pathway will equip international students with the academic and language skills they require for successful study at master's level. If required, they will also complete GMAT/GRE test preparation.

Master's International Direct

Students on this program will be provided with additional support, guidance and specialist resources designed to help them effectively adapt to studying in the United States.

Academic English Program

This pathway is dedicated to developing students' English language, academic and critical thinking abilities.

Study Abroad with English

This program allows international students to complete Academic English courses, gain experience of undergraduate-level courses while earning credits. Students will not need to enrol in a full degree program to do so.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

To apply to a pathway program at OSU, students will need to satisfy entry requirements which can vary according to each program:

Undergraduate First-Year

To be eligible for this course, students will need to demonstrate attainment of a high school diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent and program-specific requirements.

A minimum IELTS score of 6.0, a minimum TOEFL score of 70 or equivalent is required.

International Year One

Applicants will need to demonstrate attainment of a high school diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent and program-specific requirements.

A minimum IELTS score of 5.0, a minimum TOEFL score of 50 or equivalent is required.

Undergraduate Transfer Program

Applicants will need to transfer from a recognized institution with a minimum of 15-quarter or 12-semester credits, and a minimum GPA of 2.25.

A minimum IELTS score of 5.0, a minimum TOEFL score of 50 or equivalent is required.

Direct Entry Graduate

Evidence of a minimum GPA of 3.0, bachelor's degree is required (additional tests and materials may be required).

A minimum IELTS score of 7.0, a minimum TOEFL score of 91 (18 minimum sub scores) or equivalent is required.

Graduate Pathway

Applicants will need to demonstrate attainment of completion of first degree, diploma or equivalent, have equivalent to a GPA of 2.5 to 3.0 and specific program requirements.

A minimum IELTS (6.0) and minimum TOEFL (70) or equivalent is required.

Master's International Direct

Evidence of a first degree, diploma or equivalent, with a GPA of 3.0 and meeting specific program requirements is required.

A minimum IELTS (6.5 with 5.5 sub-scores) and minimum TOEFL (80 with 18 sub scores) is required.

Visiting International Student Program

Evidence of a high school diploma with 3.0 GPA or completion of at least one year of study at a university overseas with a minimum 2.25 GPA is required.

A minimum IELTS score of 6.5, a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (minimum 16 sub scores) or equivalent is required.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

Oregon State University has an impressive range of scholarships available to high-achieving international students. These awards are available to assist with the costs of tuition and other elements of student life. They include:

OSU Undergraduate Scholarships

For International Direct, International Year One, Undergraduate Transfer Program and Transfer students:

  • Provost's Scholarship for Excellence offering USD 6,000 per year for up to four years. No application is required for the award of the scholarship with academic excellence as the qualifying criteria.
  • Regional Scholarship offering up to USD 8,000 in the first year. This is a one-time award. There is no application process needed for the scholarship, with the award dependent on availability for particular regions.
  • Continued Success Scholarship offering USD 3,000 to USD 5,000 for up to three years. No application is needed with the award based on academic performance and GPA.
  • Regional Awards offerings are available for multiple regions. Amount varies, but can be up to 16,000. Availability and amount are dependent on region. For more information, please visit the OSU website.

Graduate Scholarships

For Graduate Pathway program and Master's International Direct programs:

  • Regional Scholarship offering up to USD 7,500 in the first year. This is a one-time award. There is no application process required for the award which is dependent on availability for particular regions.
  • Continued Success Scholarship offering USD 3,000 to USD 5,000 for up to two years. No application is needed with the award based on academic performance and GPA.

Students wishing to apply for an award should contact the relevant part of the university administration to find more information on the scholarship and its criteria. Students will need to be accepted onto a program at OSU prior to receiving an award.

Facilities

INTO students at Oregon State University will be able to use the great facilities and resources that are found throughout the campus.

Library

OSU's impressive libraries are accessible 24/7 through chat, email or telephone. Expert librarians will be able to answer all student questions and help them access the resources they need.

Sports

OSU prides itself on offering an impressive range of sporting facilities. It is home to the campus gym, a 23-meter pool in addition to a climbing wall. Students will also be able to access the Dixon Recreation Center, where they can take part in one of OSU's intramural sports teams.

Accommodation

The university's student halls of residence are an ideal place for international students for a relaxed and sociable environment. The university's halls are well-located nearby to central campus facilities and classrooms. All accommodation options are fully furnished, equipped with modern kitchens and social spaces, offering single gender areas if desired. They also benefit from resident advisors and live-in staff who can assist with any issues that may arise.

OSU is committed to the health of its students, staff and faculty during the COVID-19 pandemic. The university follows all public health measures, including vaccinations, wearing face coverings, testing, and managing university gatherings, activities and events. As of January 4, 2022, 93 per cent of the university's students and 94 per cent of employees were fully vaccinated.

Dining

OSU's campus boasts more than 30 food and drink options for students to enjoy between their studies. The restaurants and cafes available cater for various dietary requirements and span a large number of cuisines, so students are sure to find what they're looking for. Students can also order food to be delivered through the Starship app available on Android and iOS, saving time on having to leave their studies to go to a dining hall.

Pathway success

Oregon State University offers its students unbeatable opportunities for international students who are looking to undertake higher education at a US institution but are currently unable to satisfy the entry requirements. In 2019-2020, 91 percent of all students enrolled in a Pathway program successfully completed their programs and were eligible to progress to degree-level study at Oregon State University.

Degree study at OSU

It pays to progress to a degree program at OSU. Graduates from the university with a bachelor's degree are in the top 20 percent of paid graduates in America, according to PayScale College Salary Report 2021.

In the course of a degree program at OSU, students will be able to make great use of the various career-enhancing services on offer at the university. Students will be able to access excellent work experience and internship opportunities, allowing them to stand out in a competitive employment market.

More than 130 companies participate in OSU's internship program. MECOP helps place students in paid internships in areas such as engineering, tech and business with industry giants such as Boeing, HP, Oracle and Intel.
