About University of Leicester
The University of Leicester is a public research university based in Leicester, England. The main campus is south of the city centre, adjacent to Victoria Park. The university's predecessor, University College, Leicester, gained university status in 1957. Located in the centre of England, it is easy to visit other nearby cities, including Nottingham and Birmingham, and is just 160km (or one hour train journey) from London.
The university received media attention for the invention of genetic fingerprinting, and for contributing to the discovery and identification of the remains of King Richard III.
